Images of water: the beach, sand, boats, swimming, you name it.
Retta the Loggerhead
This is Retta, a loggerhead turtle at the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston. Scuttlebutt has it they feed her before the sharks so she won't bully them out of their meal.
Moon Jellyfish in Purple
He's not really purple; it's the mood lighting in his tank.
Sunrise at Isle of Palms
Captured week of Aug 18, 2013
Makes me wanna go right back.
Sandy Toes 2: the Reflection
I love how the sand was so smooth that it was like walking on (or sitting on) a mirror
Liam and his Dump Truck
His reflection on the wet sand is so clear it's like he's sitting on a mirror instead of crushed bits of shell and rock.
Snail shell: macro
This is a broken snail shell that had just washed up on shore.
This little flock of sandpipers worked diligently to eat everything in sight.
Marina under heavy clouds
These heavy clouds cancelled our first tour of the salt marsh. The theme song to Gilligan's Island was running through my head the whole way back.
Yeah, oysters spit. Well, they purge air as the tide recedes. No, I didn't know either.
The salt marsh has myriad little canals that seem to lead somewhere but that can quickly turn into dead ends.
Boats and Reflections
These boats sat on a glassy, calm bay in the salt marsh of Folly Beach.
I loved how the black and tan sands mixed on the Isle of Palms, especially during high tide and its rougher waves.
The long walk across the dunes to the shore of Isle of Palms is filled with these heavily-weighted grasses.
Dune grasses: closer in
And here we can see a little more detail of these lovely dune grasses.
Isle of Palms Sunrise
This is the sunrise the first day we arrived at Isle of Palms in 2013. You can see rain off to the north. Never came on shore that day, though.
So we're on the deck of the Kitty Hawk rental, and Daddy starts pretending to throw bread crumbs in the air. Turns out gulls aren't very smart, 'cause these guys just KNEW they were really really SMALL crumbs.
Took until she was 5, but she decided enough was enough and got into the waves. 'Nuff said.
Kitty Hawk isn't nearly as desolate as this picture makes it seem.
LIli watches an osprey
Lili watched as an osprey made a valiant attempt to get breakfast. And failed.
Footprints in Sand
I just love little footy-prints in the sand.
The day turned out to be as scorching as this sunrise promised.
